Final Fantasy series

The Final Fantasy series is a series of role-playing games developed and published by the Japanese game software company, Schweppes (later merged with Enix to form Schweppes Enix). The following are some introductions to the series:

  1. Major titles and platforms:
    • Final Fantasy: First released in Japan on December 18, 1987 for the FC platform. The game is set in an ancient medieval world of sword and sorcery made up of four crystals (fire, earth, water, and wind), where four young men take on the role of “Warriors of Light” in order to retrieve a crystal that has been taken away from them. This is the first game in the series to feature airships, and the traditional turn-based battle mode of command turns with randomized monster battles.
    • Final Fantasy II: Released on December 17, 1988 for the FC platform. The protagonist, Flionil, fights after his home is destroyed by the Empire. The game inherited the design of the previous game’s airships and land birds, and paid more attention to the role of the game and the embodiment of the plot, the plot mode gameplay as its characteristics.
    • Final Fantasy III: Released on April 27, 1990 on the FC platform, the game was later transferred to the iOS platform and Windows Phone. 4 warriors of light, known as the Onion Swordsmen, become the chosen ones after stumbling upon an underground crystal, and embark on a journey to save the world.

    • Final Fantasy VII: Released on January 31, 1997 for PC and PlayStation. The Shinra Corporation converts the Stream of Life into electrical energy needed by humanity, but the longer it is used the more problems arise, eventually causing a series of problems between humanity and the corporation. This was the first 3D version of the series to feature deluxe graphics and music featuring Yamaha XG sound effects, and it sold well and was so influential that it spawned a number of related titles.
    • Final Fantasy VIII: Released on February 11, 1999 on the PS platform. The game follows a young army of apprentice mercenaries as they fight to save the world. The game continues the combination of gameplay animation and process animation of Final Fantasy 7, with CG animations.
    • Final Fantasy IX: Released on July 7, 2000 on the PS platform. The protagonist, Gittan, kidnaps Princess Janet, a princess of the kingdom, who is trying to escape, by mistake, with a band of thieves, and learns the secret of the Crystal and the Darkness during his travels. The game returns to the traditional cartoon style in terms of graphics.
    • Final Fantasy X: Released on July 19, 2001 for the PS2 platform. The game has elements of indistinguishable love, parting friendship, father and son who are enemies of each other, and vague affection, as the protagonist, Yuna, and the otherworldly Taida embark on a long battle to defeat evil. It features a unique water balloon game, a summoned beast system, and other gameplay.
    • Final Fantasy XI: Released on November 7, 2002, Final Fantasy XI is the first online game in the series and is available on PS2, PC, Xbox 360 and other platforms. The game is set in the year 2065 A.D. When alien life invades Earth, a handful of humans and organizations with high-tech weapons decide to fight the aliens.
    • Final Fantasy XII: Released on March 16, 2006 for the PS2 platform. Set in the world of Ivalice, the game follows the adventures of the protagonists as they seek to reclaim their country’s sovereignty and avenge their father’s death after the kingdom of Dalmasca is taken over by the Arcadian Empire. The battles are ATB-based, and there are novel gameplay systems such as strategy.
    • Final Fantasy XIII: Released on October 10, 2014 for PC and other platforms. Lucy, who was chosen by Falshi to be the world’s public enemy, is in the midst of their complicated relationship with each other and fights against their unfortunate destiny together.
    • Final Fantasy XIV: released on October 15, 2019, is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game for PC and other platforms. Players are guided by the power of crystals to free their home from darkness on the continent of Eorzea.
    • Final Fantasy 15 (Final Fantasy XV): released on March 7, 2018 for PC and other platforms.After years of war between the kingdom of Lucis and its neighboring countries, the prince marries a princess from a neighboring country, and the kingdom’s crystals are destroyed, and the prince embarks on a new journey.
    • Final Fantasy XVI: hit Sony PS platforms on June 22, 2023, winning the TGA Best Music Award that same year.
